The Nokia Prize contest link led me to this page

Submitting the page gives a HTTP Error 500 :(

What I understand is, it's just information to get in touch with you and market the E71 but whats the CONTEST thing all about.

Nokia N78 India

Nokia N78 support page is now up on the Nokia India page, so expect it in the market soon. The estimated price is around Rs 25000 to be under Rs 20000.

Was lucky enough to get hands on with it some time ago. Look out for the transition effects and the touch sensitive navigation pad. All these additional features are because its on Symbian OS v9.3 with S60 3rd Ed FP2, other features include access point grouping with priority, more menu views etc...

Nice candybar device but didn't like the keypad. I personally feel that the buttons should always be raised and not be a part of the phones body. Even blind people use phones. I have this friend, Priyesh Jain, who is blind from birth who is a Nokia fan too. He currently uses an E60 with the Mobile Speak software. Wonder how he will ever sense these buttons on these upcoming phones like the N96, N78 etc...

See full specifications here.

Looks like I'm not the only one to hate the N78 keypad, check it out.

N82 makes a good picture for Scoble

The Scobleizer surely likes pictures taken from his N82. The best reason for this, its always there with him. But looking at his photos on Flickr, I surely admit I won't regret having a Cannon 5D. The picture quality is amazing, although I haven't seen the pictures in full res, they seem good enough for the moment been captured.

From all that I've been reading so far it seems that there is no competition to the N82 as a camera phone.

Scoble compares it to a pro camera
Vaibhav Sharma gives a thumbs up to the N82 when comparing it to the N958G
Wins Best Mobile Imaging Device in Europe (TIPA Awards)

Enough reasons for shutterbugs to own this phone.

Nokia N78, first brush with FP2

My first S60 FP2 experience, with the N78. Lots of new features

-UI Effects : Transitions, Slide in etc...
-3 softkeys like the S40 3rd Ed
-Standby Theme : Horizontal Icon bar/Basic/Vertical icon bar
-Menu View : Grid/List/Horseshoe/V-Shaped
-Access point priority
-The N78 has a sensitive navigation dial for menu/list navigation(something like ipod)
-FM Transmitter :Play songs in device through any compatible FM receiver.
-Radio shows 2 options : Visual Radio and Internet Radio
-Themes Icon now present in Tools

Nice features. Didn't get much time to spend with it but I think what they've done is added a lot of personalization. I personally didn't like the keypad. But even with so much of UI enhancements the phone felt quite fast.

Nokia is No.1 in India

Nokia is the No.1 handset vendor in India and China and Rediff has put an interesting article about why it is so. Although, I agree about its numero uno status, I never got any convincing answers about why it remains on top.

Every other brand out there has an equivalent phone to almost every Nokia model make-wise and price-wise. If you search the net there are plenty of posts about bad customer service at Nokia Care. Then there was this exploding battery thing last year.

I think that a few earlier models have done the trick for Nokia. It was the time when incoming calls were made free and the Nokia 3310 was within 10K. It was the top selling phone at that time with every other person with it. Then there was 3315, which even lowered the 3310 rates. At this time 3310 reached even the villages/rural areas. With incoming charges gone every one with a slightly higher budget would go for the 3315 else the 3310. Both these phones were very sturdy, without any flaws and had user friendly menus. So the word was spread, Nokia phones are sturdy with a good resell value and easier to use. This cycle keeps going on with Nokia coming up with just another model every year that was a hit. I think that this phone (3310) gave Nokia its loyal customers in India.

JBL On Call 5310 speaker dock

JBL dock for the 5310 XpressMusic, nice. Whats not nice is the article stating that Nokia speaker quality is pathetic. Its not, may be it was bad earlier but now its great. There was a time when I used to say that sound quality with speakers on Sony Ericssons rules but gone are those days.

"According to the press materials, the JBL On Call 5310 "serves as a customized docking station for the Nokia 5310 (and simultaneously charges the phone battery during music playback." Those loud speakers look pretty impressive too. On a side note, the dock will work with other devices as well through its standard 3.5mm mini jack."

N800 : Without connection

Just got a trial N800 from WOM world yesterday.Spent a couple of hours fiddling with it but was not able to do much as both the connectivity options were not available. I don't have WiFi at my home and because of some technical problems from the operators side my GPRS is not working for the past 4 days :( .

Its been quiet some time since I've got my hands on a device without S60 interface. This is my first hands-on with an Internet tablet. It was a surprise for my wife and dad that its not a phone because they think that if its Nokia then its got to be a phone. My dad is not at all "Mobilecentric" he calls my E61 a calculator and the N800 a transistor (old generation radios) :D.

N800 reminds me of the 7710 (S90) but this Maemo interface feels much zippier. At some point of time I've worked on Linux and thats why I kept searching for a command prompt thingi on the N800, but its not there. The media player is good, nice sound, the image viewer is nice with a fast zoom. Done most of what I can without any connection, but I've set it up with my gmail account. So today when I reach office I'll fire it up with WiFi and will be posting more of my N800 experience.

6110 Navigator finds way to India

The 6110 Navigator support page is up on Nokia-India site. So expect it soon in stores.
Its main feature: its a Navigator. Actually it comes with an internal GPS receiver and Map's application. So does the N95, but the maps software used in 6110 is not Nokia's own Maps software but its Route 66, which is a third party application. Which means that the phone will come with quiet a comprehensive map of India.

Actually India is not a Map country. We usually do not carry around maps like they do in the west, even when we are driving long distances. So having commercials out with people getting happy using the maps feature wont entice any one buying the 6110. They will really have to price it right as there are a lot of phones with the same specifications (except GPS).

E90 : Communicator or not

Lots of people seem not so happy with the E90 according to this link.
Some say the price is not justified, some think whats the difference in features between a communicator and any other NSeries phone while some miss the S80 interface.
I think its one of the coolest device available with a different form factor, forget the E & N Series funda because even I dont understand Nokia's categorization , but yes its a little expensive.
Don't think they left behind anything that was there in 9500/9300, in fact I found the S60 interface much faster than the earlier S80. Its loaded with features and is indeed an eye candy.
No matter what others have to say its 10/10 from me to E90.

Definitely not a "New Coke moment".

Nokia phone + commute time = Writer

This is interesting,

"An IT professional in Italy wrote a science fiction, "Compagni di Viaggo", using Nokia phone."
...
...
"The book, which is believed to be the first book ever written on a cell phone and published, took him 17 weeks to complete."

Thats called utilizing every bit of your time :)

All praise : iPhone software

I am always on a look out about whats been said in context to iPhone and Symbian, here's the something I found today-

"People talk about how Symbian phones have great software, but I don't think those people get the iPhone. The pocket-sized iPhone is a mini-Mac, and its software outclasses any other mobile operating system I've tried."
.....
.....
"And if the iPhone does take the world by storm, it will be because of that software. None of Apple's competitors in the phone industry – none besides Microsoft, anyway – have a track record of developing world-class operating systems and deploying them on millions of devices. The OSes that we've seen on phones up to this point, including Palm and Symbian, are little competition. Ever seen an animated weather widget on the Symbian OS?"

E90 : Nokia India

The E90 support page is now up on Nokia India site. Somewhere I read that the phone will be out in December, but the support page suggests that it may be out in a few months.
Sites have reported a launch party in Jakarta. So, may be the phone will launch here in a couple of months. It all depends upon the Nokia India marketing ppl, no one can actually predict when they release phones unless it actually comes from them. Anyways lots of people waiting for it here, hope it comes out soon ;)

Btw, the phone will be available in two colors mocca and red. All the while I thought that the color was black but its actually mocca.
